Fostering food waste reduction through food practice temporalities

چکیده

This article examines how recommendations for preventing food waste are implemented, based on the practice theories framework and more specifically Southerton's in which practices performed according to temporal dispositions (What carry out at a given time culturally derived orientations influence allocation of over time?), procedures (When this its expected demand?) sequences (How does material infrastructural environment affect time?). work is two-step qualitative study combining projective method coupled with semi-directive interviews 23 participants, observations 11 these participants helps identifying temporalities actions involved implementing reduce home. Results also lead complementary step evaluation device (a “leftovers zone” fridge) by group 10 consumers. contributes understanding daily FW.

Cutting Food Waste through Cooperation along the Food Supply Chain

Food produced but not used for human consumption is a waste of natural resources. In order to prevent and reduce food waste, the main causes have to be identified systematically along the food supply chain (FSC). The aim of this study is (1) to shed light on the causes and effects of food waste through the analysis of 44 qualitative expert interviews examining the processes and intermediaries a...

Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Food Waste and Model Food Waste Compounds

Solid waste is generated at a rate of more than 4 lb per person per day. A significant portion of the non-recyclable waste is food waste, with high water content and low energy density. While most thermochemical conversion processes require a relatively dry feedstock, hydrothermal liquefaction uses subcritical water as the reaction medium and is therefore compatible with high-moisture feedstock...

Consumers in a Sustainable Food Supply Chain (COSUS): Understanding Consumer Behavior to Encourage Food Waste Reduction

Consumers are directly and indirectly responsible for a significant fraction of food waste which, for a large part, could be avoided if they were willing to accept food that is suboptimal, i.e., food that deviates in sensory characteristics (odd shape, discoloration), or that has a best-before date which is approaching or has passed, but that is still perfectly fine to eat. The choice to accept...

Food Waste on the Agenda

Huge amounts of food waste are generated worldwide. Efficient valorisation strategies ensure that embedded energy and resources are at least partially recuperated. Food waste is a highly biodegradable material with high water content, and as such well destined for biogas production through anaerobic digestion. In order to ensure successful implementation of food waste valorisation via anaerobic...
